It was a huge game for fifth in the table Cirencester Town on Saturday as they welcomed top of the league Bedford Town to the Talent Hire stadium
After a rampant and highly competitive first half, the score remained level as Cirencester continued to frustrate the visitors but after a polarising penalty which was cooly converted by Bedford’s Leon Lobjoit they looked to increase their lead at the top of the table.
Points were shared however, after Cirencester Towns Luca Robinson danced around Bedford’s backline before coolly slotting the ball into the left corner to equalise.
“It was a well contested game, they had a few missing we had a few missing so it was hard before the game to judge what system they and I watched them a few months ago and they had a few missing so they have changed the system since then.”
“We went out with a positive attitude; we played some really good football at times, and it was probably one of the games where we created the most good chances unfortunately, we didn’t put them away in the first half that gave them some hope I think.”
The suspect nature of the Bedford Town penalty was a huge talking point with Cirencester feeling hard done by the referee’s decision.
“I think even though they are top of the league, I think if we scored a couple of early goals which we potentially could’ve done I think the game would’ve been away from them but we saw it through to half time without conceding and they managed to get a penalty, I think it was a soft penalty, some poor defending leading up to it but I think it’s a soft penalty.”
Cirencester Town fans can’t help but feel like they should’ve got more for the performance they put in, but Brough kept a level head about his team’s output.
“The lads showed good character to bounce back and geta well deserved equalizer and we could’ve nicked it at the end, but before the game I think we would’ve taken a point against top of the league.”
“There main center back was missing so that might have weakened them a bit, we got in the keeper made a great save, we hit the bar and the others we didn’t do well enough to hit the target to be honest.”
Cirencester town almost took all three points from the game after a late chance landed at Bennets feet before the audacious lob crept wide of the target.
Brough reflected on the missed chances throughout the game.
“We got into good positions but didn’t hit the target and that’s what you have to do so, it was good creating chances and they said that even though they have lost a couple of games recently that we kept them down to a minimum as well so that was pleasing.”
