February has arrived which means only one thing in the world of darts. It’s time for the Premier league.
This year the PDC have stuck with the same format that was created last year with a mini knock-out stage occurring each night creating a Champions of each venue. This then accumulates in a table based on each night’s performance with the Top 4 after 16 events going into the finals.
Eight of the world’s best Dart stars will lock horns for the next two months in what is set to be a thrilling Premier League so who will be entering the Greatest tournament in darts?
Micheal Smith
What a sensational end to the year ‘Bully Boy’ had, a maiden TV title at the Grandslam before being crowned the 2023 World Champion when he defeated Michael van Gerwen in one of the Greatest finals.
Smith hasn’t had the greatest record in the Premier League with only one top-four finish in five appearances. However with a World Title and number-one ranking surely his time isn’t too far away.
Michael van Gerwen
The six-time Premier League will be once again one of the main contenders to lift the trophy. After clinching the 2022 league, the “Green Machine” went on a rampage lifting the Matchplay, Grand-Slam and Player Championship titles.
Despite a successful 2022, he will be ever more determined to get back to winning ways after losing to Smith in his most craved prize of the World Championship. A man on a mission who will not want to be a runner-up come May.
Gerwyn Price
The iceman was left in the cold in 2022, where despite multiple victorious nights in the Premier League including two nine-daters, he finished a disappointing seventh place.
After a Matchplay final loss to his biggest rival MVG and a shock defeat to Gabriel Clemens in the World QF’s he will be in the mood to not have another poor year but can he cope with the crowd?
Peter Wright
The most memorable thing about Snakebite last season was the Grinch outfit he wore to the Worlds other than that, his season fell very flat.
The Premier League has not been his favourite tournament where despite a nail-biting loss to MVG in 2017, he has only reached the finals twice in 10 seasons.
After reaching the Masters’ semi-finals last week the Scottish favourite will be hoping to continue that by winning at least one night of darts.
Jonny Clayton
A man who loves the Premier League after securing the title on his Debut in 2021.
A famous double was on the cards however a semi-final loss to Joe Cullen meant he fell just short.
With no major finals in 2022 the “Ferret” will be looking for glory once again where he won four Tv Titles.
Dimitri Van de Bergh
The Dreammaker is back after a great 2022, which saw him win two World Series of Darts titles and reach Matchplay and World Championship semi-finals.
The Belgian will be hoping to improve on a fifth-place finish in 2021.
Chris Dobey
His steady rise in recent years saw him earn his first TV Title after winning the 2022 Masters after defeating Rob Cross 11-7.
With Night 8 in Newcastle, Dobey will want to impress before his homecoming but as the only debutant in the lineup, the pressure will be on him to show his worth.
Nathan Aspinall
Aspinall – the runner-up to Glen Durrant on his debut in 2020 – will be making his third Premier League appearance after featuring in TV finals at the World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts over recent months.
‘The Asp’, who is also a two-time World Championship semi-finalist, will be one of the dark horses to lift the 2023 Premier League.
