Former Cheltenham Town defender’s shirt goes over £1000 mark in charity auction

A former Cheltenham Town defender’s match-worn shirt has now hit the £1000 mark as it now goes under the hammer to Cheltenham Town supporters.

The Robins wore a one-off blue strip for the Sky Bet League Two fixture against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, December 9 to raise awareness of the British Lung Foundation.

The idea was the brainchild of the Robins Trust, who worked closely with the club and the charity to create an event after someone closely linked to the club was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Daniel O’Shaughnessy’s number 14 shirt is clearly of high value to Robins fans after the centre-back’s move back to Finland.  The defender joined reigning Veikkausliiga champions HJK on a two-year contract, with the option for a further year.

The shirt originally came on offer after Cheltenham Town’s ‘go blue for Crewe’ campaign which started back in December.

The auction ends on Saturday at 9pm, after Cheltenham’s home fixture against Barnet.

Soccer AM also featured the shirt on their show on December 9, they have added the shirt to auction after getting the shirt signed by guest stars including Danny Dyer and boxer Tyson Fury.

Cheltenham have teamed up with AMS Auctions to host the event, where all shirts worn by the players in the match against Crewe are up for auction.
