“When you start picking up results it becomes a habit” Cheltenham Town midfielder Luke Young discusses their recent form

Cheltenham Town midfielder Luke Young spoke on the club’s recent success in the EFL Trophy and how the form they have hit could help them going into the Christmas period.

“The lads have done well in this competition which helps us carry the confidence and momentum from Tuesday and hopefully take it into the weekend.”

After starting the season poorly in the league Cheltenham Town have lost only two of their last 13 games in all competitions and have really started to ease into life in League Two.

“We have turned a corner after a disappointing start to the season, but I think everyone can see from the outside looking in that we have turned a corner, and the lads are full of confidence and rightfully so.

“We’ve got a great group of lads that get on really well and I think that correlates into the pitch and I think when you have that good team bonding of the pitch on it becomes second nature and when you start picking up results it becomes a habit.”

But despite the good run of form that Cheltenham have found there as still issues that lie in the team as this season, they dropped 15 points from winning positions.

“We’ve had many conversations about that collectively as a group and as players and managers and the amount of points that we so called dropped.

“There have been four or five games where we have led and either come away with nothing or one point so if you look at it from that point of view we could have been right near the top.”

Going into the Christmas period Cheltenham have a busy spell ahead and a difficult one as the next six of seven games are played against top half of the table opposition including the top of league Walsall and second Port Vale.

“If we can pick up as many points as we can and put in good performances against teams that are above us, why can’t we go on a charge and put ourselves in the mix and I have no doubt we will do.”
