What we have learned from Day one of the Formula One pre-season testing in Bahrain.

The reigning champions got off a good start on Thursday as Max Verstappen picked up where he left off, finishing as the fastest time on day one of three at pre- season testing in Bahrain.

Verstappen were 0.671 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton in all black Mercedes where he finished in sixth place with teammate George Russell in ninth, finishing 1.2 seconds off Verstappen before Hamilton took over, completing 83 laps. 

Fernando Alonso moved into second for new team Aston Martin with just 0.029 seconds behind Verstappen as he completed 157 laps, bringing Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc third and fourth for Ferrari. 

Day two testing in Bahrain has started this afternoon with Verstappen on track for the final time during testing.
