“They signed me to score goals, that’s what I want to do” – new signing Aidan Keena talks on life in Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town’s new January signing Aidan Keena seems to be slowly adjusting to life in England after grabbing his second assist for his new club.

Keena joined the Robins late into the January transfer window from Irish club Sligo Rovers for a club record fee of £100,000.

The 23-year-old drew attention to himself after becoming the Irish Premier division top goal scorer last season, scoring 18 goals.

When speaking about his transition to his new side, Keena said: ” Yeah it’s a good group, good group of lads, it’s been easy to settle in.”

“I think the style of football that they play suits me well, so yeah I’m happy, no worries.”

“when you want to be a footballer, you want to play in these big stadiums with lot’s of fans, you got to relish the opportunity and enjoy these games

Despite not scoring yet, Keena managed to provide yet another assist on Tuesday linking up with club top scorer Alfie May.

“Yeah we have got a lot strikers at the club, so there’s competition to push each other, another assist and a good goal from Alfie, hopefully we can keep this up and keep it going moving forward.”

Kenna now turns his attention to Saturday where Cheltenham takes on Portsmouth in League One action and hopes for his first 90 minutes.

“we are going into Saturday hoping to get a good result and to try and put ourselves a couple more points above that relegation zone.”

“with all the other strikers in the squad, they all need to get game time as well, obviously I want to play every minute, if you ask anyone in the squad they’ll say they will want to play every minute as well.”

The 23-year-old is expected to start on Saturday where he looks to try his best to get his first goal for the club.
