Liam Bond captains Montpellier FC into their first semi-final in their inaugural season as potential Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves final looms.
Montpellier sit in title contention in Cheltenham League Division Three. Amongst those battling for the league are AFC Kempsey, a team that Montpellier have done the double over. They face eachother yet again in the Senior Charities Cup semi-final.
Captain and chairman Liam Bond admitted, “I’m very excited. It was good to be able to get the double down early this season. They’re huge points.”
Bond expects the game to be a tight affair.
“It will be a very different game. Both teams have developed and grown. It’s going to be a little cagier. We know what to expect from each other.”
The Cheltenham Senior Charities Cup is a competition that boasts a final in Cheltenham Town’s Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
Civil Service Reserves already booked a place in the final with a 1-0 win over Hanley Swan on 30 March.
Montpellier aren’t afraid of a team two leagues above, claims Bond, “On our day, I’m not scared of anyone. I think we could quite easily be competing at the top of Division One.”
“Being able to play against the best of the best in the most senior cup is exciting. The lads will rise to the occasion, I know they will.”
Civil Service Reserves manager Dan Midwinter could potentially win five trophies for the side. But not if Montpellier can help it.
“He can’t have it all, we’re here to spoil the party. We want the double. We’ll be there to spoil any party, or any dreams and aspirations they’ve got of having a clean sweep we want to take away from them.”
AFC Kempsey face Montpellier FC on Wednesday 6 April, at Kayte Lane, Bishop’s Cleeve.
