Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer is confident that the Blues can overcome a potential relegation battle and find their feet in the Championship once again.
Bowyer’s side currently sits 18th in the Championship and haven’t won since November 2nd, with the most recent defeat coming to League One side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last weekend.
Injuries have been a major occurrence at St Andrew’s and was witnessed in the 1-0 loss to the Pilgrims, with Jobe Bellingham making his first-team debut and many other teenagers featuring across the 120 minutes.
However, Bowyer believes that the squad, when fully healthy, can return to their winning ways.
“If we can strengthen the squad it gives us a better chance to win games, but once we get a couple of injuries back here and there it will also help the situation.
“We have enough in the fully fit squad to win games, we were doing that at the start when we had good numbers available.
“Once we fix that problem [injuries], we’ll start winning games again.”
Bowyer has had to deal with an injury crisis first hand this season, with the Blues squad being diminished regularly.
With the losses of Dion Sanderson and Riley McGree as their loans have expired, the 45 acknowledges the importance of bringing in some talent in the January transfer window to try and regain some depth in the squad.
“We want to bolster the squad, the teams in and around us are doing that so we don’t want to fall short.
“Obviously Dion [Sanderson] went, we’ve replaced him but Riley [McGree] is gone, we haven’t replaced him yet, so we’ve got Taylor Richards there but we need to bring in more.”

Birmingham’s good relations with Manchester United have seen two loanees come to B9 in Teden Mengi and Tahith Chong, but for the latter, it was only a brief spell.
The Blues manager stated that, “Chong has been out for a long time, we definitely need to strengthen, there are no two ways about it.”
When questioned about the tough run of form, Bowyer recognises that changes need to be made, but did state the injury crisis playing a major part in the lack of points gained over the last couple months.
“I’m disappointed, I want to win every game, but football is a crazy game and things can change quickly.
“We’ve had difficult circumstances that we’ve been working under, we’ve had a few injuries and lost some key players, so we’ve had to use a lot of kids of late and kids that you could argue are not ready for the Championship.”
Adding that: “the group that I’m working with, that I have to send in week in week out at the moment is giving everything.
“Sometimes we’re falling a little bit short but hopefully in the near future that can change.”
Birmingham City travel to Preston North End on Saturday for their next EFL Championship match.
