“We couldn’t show the Freshers what it is like” Charlie Gould spoke about the cancellation of Cricket Varsity 2024

University of Gloucestershire Cricket’s Varsity has been cancelled this year due to circumstances out of their hands, but the team wants to put that behind them to prepare for the outdoor BUCS season.

The Social Secretary speaks about the indoor team making it to the national indoor finals “A really successful Indoor BUCS campaign reaching the last 10 in the country.”

UOG cricket made it the furthest they have in indoor cricket playing in the National Trophy Final in Leicester a couple of weeks ago.

This is the furthest they have made in the competition competing against some of the biggest universities in the country.

The indoor team finished fourth in their group at the national finals but that is not to be underestimated after only losing one game on their road to the finals beating teams like Exeter and Cardiff Met in the process.

Gould is confident that the team can go and win both leagues this season “The boys are really looking forward to the outdoor season, looking to win two BUCS wins this season”

UOG will have two teams competing in the outdoor season this year, which is the same as last year, but the team is confident in the squad with Gould saying “We’ve had some good freshers come in” hoping to replace the old boys who have left.

“Personally, I had a good end to last season especially with the bat” the Welsh man wants to continue his good form as he hopes to push himself up the batting order.

“That pushes myself and everyone on to work harder” Gould speaks about the new first years who have pushed everyone to train harder and fight for their spot.

UOG cricket season kicks off in early April in the BUCS leagues, but they also have the T20 competition kicking off in May where they are hoping to challenge for the title with the strong squad they are creating.
