Following promotion last Tuesday with a 1-1 draw at home to Carlisle United, Cheltenham Town boss Michael Duff spoke of his gratitude towards the Cheltenham fans in what he described as “a challenging 12 months for everyone”.
Speaking to the University of Gloucestershire, Duff explained how the supporters had helped spur the club on throughout the pandemic, explaining: “you look at the cardboard cut outs for example, where season ticket holders have been shelled their own money into helping the club, it’s been very generous”.
Despite how positive things have been on the pitch for the Robins this season, off the pitch the troubles that have been caused by the Covid-19 pandemic are still evident and the club has had to work through difficult circumstances to help support both the players but also the fans through the season.
Duff also acknowledged the social media community for their support through the season saying “I’ve seen the impact the online community has had as well, I’m not online personally but I know a lot of the lads have mentioned it and have seen the support for the team online”.

A message to our amazing fans https://t.co/B2Nhl2PZOw #ctfc
A statement released by the club this morning to fans expressed their understanding of the fans desire to celebrate with the players, but expressed the need for caution, instead explaining how “For now we are working closely with the authorities on the return to football as quickly as we possibly can but any setbacks could have an adverse effect on the process”.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until the Robins faithful can return to the Jonny-Rocks once again to get behind Duff and the team as they venture into the unchartered waters of League 1.
