The University of Gloucestershire mens cricket team have lost their first Varsity encounter in four years following a four-wicket defeat to the University of Worcester.
This leaves UOG trailing by five points to nine in the multi-sport competition.
Worcester won the toss and chose to bowl first on a good pitch.
It was very slow going to start proceedings as Worcester made it hard for UOG to score.
After eight overs, the first wicket fell, which left them 12/1.
For the rest of the innings, wickets fell at regular intervals, including some first ball ducks.
Gloucestershire were bowled out for 93 with three balls remaining.
Worcester started their reply in good fashion, but soon found themselves two wickets down for only 11 runs.
However, there were many little partnerships that kept Worcester afloat.
In the end, Worcester won by four wickets within 35 overs.
The third year players that were playing for UOG were visibly upset with the result as it was their last Varsity.
ParklifeSport spoke to third-year cricketer Tom Hage after the match:
” I think we just didn’t make enough runs in the first place. It obviously showed in the second half that we didn’t need that many runs. if we had got another 30-40 more we would have been right into their tail,” he said.
