UOGWRFC’s hopes remain high as Bath University call the Cup match off on a draw at 17-17 at Plock Court on November 24.
Gloucestershire’s Harley Seymour closed the second half with a bang as she dived over the try line to equalise on the scoreboard at 17-17.
While going to extra time was not the preferred outcome for either sides, both teams agreed to a rematch after a serious injury was announced three minutes in.
After a slow start to the season, team GLOS’ chances to declare a victory continue to be on hold since their first BUCS fixture against Southampton University.
Gloucestershire’s early handling mistake led Bath University a 5-0 lead within a few minutes of the starting whistle.
Despite the rocky start for the Gloucestershire side they soon bounced back and offered a very physical performance against Bath.
Even though the Blues kept sneaking in front of the try line before half time, they were one step behind in the scoreboard at the break.
Refreshed into the second half, team GLOS kept the same drive and effort and went on to get more points on the scoreboard alongside Bristol Bears’ Sophie Phillips and Harley Seymour’s textbook tries.
Back of the match Madi Williams reflected on the team’s “outstanding” effort and stated: “We gave 100% from the start to finish and it reflected in the scoreline.
“I’m extremely proud of the team today and playing in front of a home crowd was outstanding.”
University of Gloucestershire player Grace Gillard added: “The girls have worked so hard in training and it has massively paid off in the match.
“It’s such a shame that the Bath side pulled out.”
Despite the undesired ending, UOGWRFC are looking forward to reinforcing the same hard-work and enjoyment into their next BUCS fixture against Southampton on December 1.
