In the final game before Varsity, the University of Gloucestershire Rugby Union side beat Plymouth Marjon 74-28 at Plock Court.
Dan Page capped off his amazing season with his second hat-trick of the season and 15th try throughout the season. Harry Leftwich and Iman Hussain both went over for braces.
Winger Tom Hamilton gave his thoughts on the game: “I thought it was a very good game. Obviously, we won, but I think, you know, we demonstrated that we have the ability to play really well as a team.
“I think, leading on to Varsity in a few weeks time, I think it’s boosted our morale.”
Cam Wilson scored his first try for UOG in his third and final year, with many players also saying goodbye to their last league game, as they prepare for varsity over the next few weeks.
Other scorers in the 12 try thriller were from Will Staveley, Kian Healy, Liam Ray and Ethan Johnson.
Team coach Callum Braley and coach Jono Benz-Salomon managed their final regular season games of their time in UOG. Both coaches also face playing commitments with Gloucester Rugby.
Former Italy international, Braley signed a new contract for the Cherry and Whites during the international break. He had over 100 appearances for Gloucester over his career before moving between Benetton, Northampton Saints, Saracens and Cardiff.
“It’s a shame to see him go, he’s helped us grow as a team and in shape. I think you can see how far we’ve come. Last season, only two wins, but this year we’ve been way more connected”.
Benz-Solomon has had nine appearances for the Cherry and Whites this season and will look to leave his role after varsity too.
“Yeah, having Jono as well, I think the forwards have definitely voiced their opinions of how useful he’s been, and when we do full team training, his defence coaching has been really useful and, you know, really good drills, and it’s a shame to see him go too.”
All heads turn to the 20th of April as UOG will face the University of Worcester in a highly anticipated contest at Cheltenham Tigers. UOG look for revenge after losing narrowly in the previous clash.
