UEFA to hold emergency meeting regarding Champions League final after St Petersburg axed

A spokesperson from UEFA has confirmed that an emergency meeting will take place tomorrow in order to discuss the venue of the 2022 Champions League final.

An official statement from UEFA’s verified twitter account read stated: “Following the evolution of the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the UEFA president has called an extraordinary meeting.”

Reports suggest that UEFA have already decided to change the location of the final from Zenit, Russia and the meeting will be used to discuss a new appropriate venue.

It has been suggested that Wembley Stadium in London could be used, however is unlikely due to the EFL having already booked it for play-off events that weekend, as well as Wembley already being agreed to host the final in 2024.

The meeting is set to take place at 10:00 CET (09:00 GMT) on Friday 25 February.
