Two undefeated teams enter, one team leaves: A preview of the showdown between the Gloucestershire Gladiators and the Bath Killer Bees

The Gladiators visit Bath to do battle with the Killer Bees next Saturday to decide which team claims the sole right of the top spot in the BUCS South West Tier 2.

In a short seven-game season, the top-of-the-table clash could ultimately decide who gains promotion to Tier 1.

The valiant Gladiators are yet to concede a point in the current campaign, dominating Aberystwyth University 44-0 and Bath Spa Open University 30-0 in their opening two fixtures.

Captain Jordan Vincent has been a key part of the Gladiators’ impressive turnaround after the team struggled to a losing record in 2021.

The infusion of new talent was much-needed. Star running back and outside linebacker Joshua Ricketts has previously spoken to Talk Sport about the problems caused by their relatively small squad.

If the Gladiators needed any reminder of the sting in the Bees’ tail, they need look no further than how the Bath side scored freely in a 40-8 rout of Plymouth Open University, and a 52-6 win over Worcester Open University.

The trio of Lewis Hunt, Daniel Koram Asare, and Max McManus provide the Bees with the strength and leadership that will undoubtedly make them one of the top teams in the South West Tier 2 this season.

Bees’ wide receiver Dan ‘MVP’ Asbury is a danger to score anytime the ball gets in his hands, and the Gladiators will need to be on their toes to keep the target man in check.

Ricketts is aware of the challenge his team faces, but he remains confident.

It’s all set up for a great game. Drop by the Sports Training Village at the University of Bath on 21st January at 1pm to catch the action.
