With hotels booked, fascinators bought and various items of tweed dry-cleaned and ready to be worn, Cheltenham Race Week is well and truly on the horizon…but have you thought about breakfast? From a pint of Guinness to a luxurious lobster tail, Park Life has sought out the best spots in Cheltenham to enjoy your pre-race day breakfast.
Placed slap-bang in the middle of Bath Road, you’ll be lucky to get a table at this popular spot for Cheltonians. Serving up hearty cooked breakfasts, a range of teas and coffees galore (perfect for those hangovers), it’s the perfect place to stop by if you’re staying in the Bath Road/Montpellier end of town. The gravity-defying hot chocolates covered in whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate are a must.
For those out in the charming village of Prestbury – The Royal Oak is the obvious choice, and for good reason. The idyllic country pub serves up a breakfast menu exclusively for race week that doesn’t disappoint. With plenty of tables in both the bar area and dining room, it’s ideal for big groups and is super handy at just a short walk from the race course.
3) The County Kitchen – Central Cheltenham
For those who have had one flutter too many at the race course and fancy something a little more wallet-friendly, The County Kitchen is your best bet. Located on the lower high street and with a breakfast menu featuring locally-sourced meats, eggs and bread, they pride themselves on having the ‘best breakfast in Cheltenham’. We recommend the hot salted caramel waffles at just £3.50.
4) The Ivy Brasserie – Montpellier
Recently opened and already rated 4* on Trip Advisor, it’s not surprising that The Ivy is the place to go this race week. Boasting a wide variety of appetising breakfast options and located in the distinctive Montpellier rotunda, you’re guaranteed a top-class breakfast in equally stunning surroundings. Serving food from 8am, we recommend the classic Eggs Royale with a vanilla shakerato – an espresso shaken with ice and served in a martini glass.
5) Boston Tea Party – Central Cheltenham
A favourite amongst locals for its quirky interior and prime location in town, BTP is always jam-packed with customers. Though often tricky to bag a table, the friendly staff and tasty food make it worth the wait. With an extensive menu offering vegetarian, vegan and lighter options, BTP prime themselves on catering for all.
Ideal for those staying at the Brewery’s Premier Inn, Cosy Club boasts an interior that can only be described as glorious – with gold horse and jockey decals on each of their windows to get you in the mood. With a luxurious lobster tail with creamed scrambled eggs, tomatoes and spinach as the star of its breakfast menu – it’s perfect for those who enjoy the finer things.
