“We always get nervous but it keeps us on our paws.”
Folk and Blues band The Shaggy Dog Raconteur are heading to Gloucester’s pub Dick Whittington tonight. The band have been together and touring Gloucestershire for two years, with two new members joining a year ago.
Their interesting band name came from the classic book ‘The Shaggy Dog Story’. Some members joined in a very unexpected way by meeting on the dance floor or by meeting other bands. They said: “Although we are very excited to be playing at Dick Whittington, we are especially keen on chasing any cats!”
They all have different jobs as well as playing together regularly, and they meet up once a week to get their inspiration flowing. They say they’re inspired by many bands such at The Doors, Bob Dylan, Barbara Woodhouse and Robert Johnson; but they’re greatest challenge is when inspiration doesn’t flow and that makes it harder to write new tracks.
Even though this may be a challenge for them, their greatest moment was a song that stuck with them and their fans called Bees Around Your Nest’ and they always get a thrill when writing their own songs.
They keep their aspirations simple, by wanting to continue to enjoy themselves, writing music and performing until they finally have a happy ending.
You can see The Shaggy Dog Raconteur tonight at 9pm and other bands alike from tonight until 25th February all over Gloucester!
