“They are a dangerous side especially at home but we want to go there and do really well in the game” Steve Cotterill emphasised ahead of his sides trip over the bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Newport who sit in 23rd in the table have had a difficult start to the season, however, Cotterill was keen to mention the threat that the hosts will bring on the weekend.
“They are a dangerous side especially at home, they look a good coached team and I can see patterns in their play in what they’re trying to do.”
Despite a difficult start to the season Newport have enjoyed success in their recent game, picking up a memorable 1-0 win at Cardiff City in the EFL Cup as well as important win at Accrington Stanley last weekend.
Cheltenham on the other hand suffered last minute disappointment last weekend. When Gillingham snatched a last minute equaliser to deny Cheltenham off back to back wins.
Cotterill was keen to reiterate the positive week in the training ground he has had in preparation for their weekend trip to Newport. “Tuesday was a tough day of training all round, Wednesday was more of a generic day and today we have had a good day beginning preparation for the weekend.”
“I won’t be any less committed or more committed going into the game this week, irrespective of the opposition the preparation will be the same every week.”
It’s certainly too early to call this a six pointer, however, there is no doubt over the significance that this game could do to the bottom half of the table come the end of the season.
The Robins will be backed with a packed away end on Saturday as they look to maintain the strong record they have at Rodney parade with no defeat on Welsh ground since 2017.

“When you get an away team that comes down and they have a good sound it can really help the team. If you can get a little pocked of support that’s brilliant.”
Cotterill has immediately created a strong bond with the fans having won them over in his opening game in charge with the 2-0 win over Fleetwood.
