The 15th edition of the Hockey Men’s World Cup gets underway on Friday, January 13 in Bhubaneswar, India.
All games will be played at the Kalinga stadium with Argentina taking on South Africa in the first game of the competition. Host nation India start campaign against world number eight Spain. But the highlight of the opening day is a home nation clash between England and Wales.
England will go into the game as favourites as Wales compete in their first ever World Cup. England will look to improve on getting to the semi-finals from four years ago.
Great Britain currently sit top of the Pro League which is made up mostly of England player with a few Welsh player in the team including Ruppert Shipperley and Jacob Draper
Defending Champions Belgium start their title defence against Korea on Saturday, January 14. Belgium currently sits sixth in this season Pro League after four games, with two wins and two defeats.
World number ones Australia and favourites for the tournament start their campaign on Friday, where they will take on France and start the competition with a win.
Another team that will be looking to claim the title of World Champions are defending Pro League winners the Netherlands who have won the competition three times.
The final of the competition will take place on Sunday, January 29.
