The Gloucester City Queens’ nine-game losing streak was extended by Cardiff Met Archers on Wednesday, head coach Jay Marriott expressed his sadness with the result.
The Queens faced the Archers in Wales this week and suffered a major 33-point loss to their playoff rivals.
âObviously Iâm disappointed with the result, but I think we played two really good quarters, we really played some good basketball.
âHowever, our mindset is very much focused on the long term, rather than worrying about game to game and winning.â
However, four players reached double-digits, which is a highlight for the Gloucester-based franchise as scoring has been one of the hardest difficulties to overcome this season.
Marlee Ball, Claire Abbott, Molly James and Carolina Marques combined for 58 of the 64 points, with Inma Bautista scoring the other six.
Ball recorded another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds against her former team and has claimed this accolade more and more as the season has gone on, something Marriott highlighted.
âIâve just got to say outwardly how proud I am of her.”
Marriott quickly added, âthe growth in her as a player has been fantastic and whatâs really exciting for her is thereâs more to come.
âI was really determined to get more out of her at the start of the year and now we’re seeing a Marlee Ball with much more weapons to her game.â
A four-and-a-half-hour journey to face the Newcastle Eagles is what awaits Marriott and his squad on Saturday.
The last time the Queens faced the Eagles, the visitors came away as 21-point victors over their playoff rivals.
Tip-off is at 7:30PM on Saturday at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.
