Two of Cheltenham’s best rugby sides go head to head today in a local derby. The Cheltenham based Old Patesian’s RFC will host the Gloucester based Brockworth RFC at their home ground on Everest Road at 2pm. The last time these two teams met it was a bit of a one sided affair with the Old Pat’s putting 80 points on the score board to Brockworth’s 5 points. University of Gloucestershire sports journalism Alumni Sam Rhymes kicking an impressive 10 Conversions.
The Old Pat’s will be hoping for a similar result today to help them push for the league title. They currently sit second in the Counties Tribute 2 Gloucestershire North League just 8 points behind Gordon League with a game in hand. Their Last League fixture was a very close game against Smiths Rugby where they won by a single point winning 19-18. Brockworth on the other hand have been struggling this season as they languish in 10th place in the league, one off the bottom spot. The Badgers are on one of their best runs of this campaign having won their last two matches. They dispatched off Old Cryptians 27-11 at home last time out giving them the second home win all season. The game before that they beat Hucclecote 12-22 away which was only their third away win all season.
This is the Old Pat’s line up for the derby and we are delighted to see UoG Alumni Sam Rhymes in the starting line up. Hopefully his kicking boot is as hot as the last encounter between the two sides. Kick Off 2pm Everest Road Cheltenham.
