‘Nice compliment and a great opportunity’- Cheltenham U12 footballer Max Williams secures Wales call up

Cheltenham Town youngster Max Williams has earned himself a call up to the Welsh squad something his dad Ben has said ‘is a compliment to him and how hard he works.’

The youngster has been in the Robins development squad since the age of eight and has earned this incredible opportunity the long way around.

It’s a long way for Williams who only managed to get into the Town development squad after securing a spot in an open trial.

After this he secured his spot in the academy and he is ‘doing everything he can.’

While at a young age there is little to no pressure being placed on Williams he does face expectation in the form of his own family.

Max’s dad got an international call up for Wales in addition to both of his brothers, uncles and grandad.

With such a massive sporting family it makes total sense in how Ben has got such talent.

The centre back or defender has got a long way to go but this is a ‘nice reward’ for the difficult journey that Max has already gone through in his very young footballing career.

He has already had to face a lot of pressure and considering the Cheltenham player is not even a teen he’s already being judged and evaluated.

Ben confirmed that ‘Representatives of Wales have already been to seen Ben twice’

It’s not all hard work however and Ben did confirm that Max would receive a reward for such an achievement.

‘He wants his chicken and chips and that will be his reward for such a thing. He’s been begging for it all day!’

With Ben always kicking a ball around a lot of desperation to be a footballer could we be seeing Max Williams name in lights in year to come?
