Michael Duff’s Cheltenham Town travel to AFC Wimbledon in FA Cup Second Round

Michael Duff’s Cheltenham Town travel to Plough Lane on Saturday with the aim of emulating last season’s FA Cup success by overcoming AFC Wimbledon to go through to the third round.

The two sides haven’t met since 2015 when goals from Jack Smith and Durrell Berry saw the two share the points with a 1-1 draw in Cheltenham’s relegation season. The last victory for the Robins came in 2013 courtesy of a 90th-minute Jamie Cureton strike.

The Dons currently sit six places and six points behind Duff’s side in the table, occupying 17th place with only one win in their last five league games.

Their bad run of form has seen them lose against Portsmouth, Wigan and Cambridge, the latter of which Cheltenham host on Tuesday night. Their passage to the second round came via a 1-0 win over non-league Guiseley.

Comparatively, Cheltenham have enjoyed a good run of form, two wins and three draws in the last five have seen them rise to the top half of the table with wins over Gillingham and Shrewsbury between draws at Bolton, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday. It took two attempts to make it through the first round, a 1-1 draw at Gillingham forcing the tie to a replay which Cheltenham won thanks to an 11th minute goal from Mattie Pollock.

Victory for the robins will also bring in £34,000, an amount that will go a long way for the club with the second smallest budget in League One.

Kick off is 3pm at Plough Lane.
