Bristol City under-21’s take on Bromley tonight in the Premier League Cup looking to build on a positive performance on Monday.
The young Robins return to cup action as they make the trip to south-east London to take on the EFL new comers, who currently sit third in their group, only one place behind City.
City will be looking to bounce back in the competition after suffering defeat to a strong Exeter last time out, a team that are yet to suffer defeat in the Premier League Cup.
The two sides met back in September with the young Robins coming out on top with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Tommy Backwell and Brandon Bak.
Bristol City come into the game currently on a poor run of form, without a win in five games, however Monday’s goalless draw with title chasing Charlton Athletic.
While Bromley are yet to taste victory in the cup in their maiden voyage in the competition.
City have been buoyed with the return of Rob Atkinson, who is gaining fitness with the team after a lengthy outing with an ACL injury.
The squad seem to have definitely taken full advantage of his experience playing at a top level for this short period of time – looking more assured in their defensive third.
Ali Hines’ side are currently in the midst of having three games in seven days, with the young Robins taking on Norwich on Monday.
Ahead of tonight’s showdown, Hines spoke after the Charlton game with the relentless weekend ahead for his team.
“We have got three games in seven days. Hines said following the 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate.
“We highlighted that this morning, can we get performances and results in the performances we have got.
“We travel up to Bromley on Friday so we are looking forward to that game, it will be a more tough game with them being more of a reserve set up rather than an under 21’s, so that will be a challenge and then we have got Norwich on Monday.
“So, it’s a busy week but we are looking forward to it.”
It looks to be a tough week for the young Robins, with games coming thick and fast with the busy schedule.
However, Hines feels he will be able to get his team ready for what is to come.
“We do match preparation, so the details of each team we play against and how we play.
“And then it’s all about rest and recovery and getting the boys back out there so they have optimum performance when they do play.”
It promises to be a difficult night ahead for City as they look to return to winning ways at seven o’clock tonight.
