Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin scored to give Ipswich Town three points to beat Swansea City 2-1 at home leaving Luke Williams’ side in 18th place in the Championship, four points away from the relegation zone.
Williams reflected on the opposition’s goals that saw them lose the match, “Tymon gets on the wrong side, Ben Cabango, I think kicks the floor a little bit. That is just a ridiculous way to concede a goal and then a freekick midway in the opposition’s half, they played a ball square, no one steps forward to press. The distance is wrong between the players in the backline, (Ipswich) kicked one ball in the channel, no marking in the box for the cutback.”

Looking at the game as a whole Williams felt his team had improved even compared to other games, “I mean I would say outside of Leicester, Leeds, Bournemouth. I think we’ve been in all the games, and today, I think we were more than a match. I think there was almost nothing between the two teams in terms of the numbers at the end of the game. But we came off second best, so there are some positives in there I’m sure.
“We probably need 24 hours to start feeling any positive at the moment, but for sure the players are completely committed. I think they showed that again today though. The work rate and the effort is, I don’t think we can question that.”

• We definitely performed well against a very good Ipswich side
• Jerry Yates is back scoring
• Kuharevich is giving a chance and looked promising in attack

After seven games in charge Williams has only gained four points with a draw and one win, as he looks forward, he attempts to find the problem, “We have to concentrate better. This thing about scoring and then being desperate to concede immediately because it’s too scary to be on level terms or something. So, (the team needs to) work really hard to get back in the game after giving a goal away.
“I love the commitment, the players and I love working with them, they’re a very good group, they’re really good. They’ve had a tough time, and they have to learn to play every second of the game.”
After this game, Swansea see themselves trying to fight against relegation, somewhere they did not expect or want to be in this season. Though, Williams believes he has enough experience to know how to handle the situation: “I’ve been in tough spots before. I arrived at MK Dons in 22nd position in League One and tried to improve the team.
“So we were not in too dissimilar position to Swansea when I first came here as assistant manager. So, I think you have to be consistent, continue to try to work to improve. I think to try and do nothing and hope is just a ridiculous tactic. To do something crazy, to try to do something completely left field, is no good. We have to continue trying to improve. The way to improve, to look at the things that are harming us and try to attack them, improve those.”
