King Turgeon lands hat-trick with Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Coming Soon Handicap Chase win beating Grand National hopeful Chianti Classico

King Turgeon won in dramatic fashion by a widening margin in the 1:50, 3m2f, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Coming Soon Handicap Chase on the Friday of the December meet at Cheltenham, coming from behind to win.

They jumped off four abreast with King Turgeon, Chianti Classico, Our Power and Java Point sharing the lead.

A slick jump moved King Turgeon into the lead after the third fence on the inside rail.

The field were all closely bunched as they reached the water jump for the first time.

Chianti Classico raced nicely in second for jockey Ciaran Gethings.

Chambard began to detach from the field after the completion of the first circuit, as the pace quickened out in-front, pulling up four out.

There was only one change to the order as they reached the water jump for the second and final time, Java point for Jonathan Burke dropped to second last.

A bad mistake from Izino d’Airy took the French import to the rear of the field.

Chianti Classico, for trainer Kim Bailey, travelled nicely in third on the inside rail.

Izino d’Airy was nudged along after another mistake at the top of the hill by jockey Alexandre Seignuel, before pulling up three out.

King Turgeon made his first jumping error for Jack Tudor heading down the hill, as Chianti Classico switched to the outside and pulled alongside.

The leaders went three abreast at the turn, with King Turgeon on the inside rail, Our Power under Dylan Johnston in the middle and Chianti Classico on the outside.

Our Power and Chianti Classico moved ahead at the second last under encouragement from their riders.

King Turgeon rallied well approaching the last, passing Our Power and then taking the lead from Chianti Classico over the last.

Our Power who had dropped to third, came back at Chianti Classico who tired and hung left under top weight and dropped to third at the line.

1st – King Turgeon 9/4

2nd – Our Power 20/1

3rd – Chianti Classico 2/1F
