Yaz Gachette has described her role as vice-captain in the squad as a role which is “both on and off the pitch.”
The midfielder, who has made 11 appearances this season, has been a key part of Evesham’s success.
Mark Taylor’s side sit top of the Midwest Counties Female Football League, and have five games in hand over second-placed Nunnery Wood Adults United Women.
“It’s a leadership position which is both on and off the pitch. I work closely with the captain and some of the other senior experienced players to make sure everything runs smoothly for us as a club.”
“It’s quite a big responsibility really, and you have to remember your role. I could take my role as just being a midfielder but also I’m a senior player but also I’m a vice captain.” She said.
Current manager Taylor has plenty of experience in and around the women’s game, joining the side in late 2024, after spells with Malvern Town Women and as head of recruitment spell at Cheltenham Town Women. His coaching staff, Steve Dallow and Angus Hodge linked up with Taylor at the Spires and Hartwell Stadium upon his arrival.
“I’ve got a really supportive coaching team with Mark (Taylor), Angus (Hodge) and Steve (Dallow), so it’s great to have a strong management structure as well to support how we run. I joined the team at a very similar time to the new managers, and it just brings a level of professionalism to how we train and how we do our tactics. Having a management team that are mostly volunteering their time, but giving that level of thought and commitment to how we show up and play as a team.” Gachette continued.
With the men’s side achieving promotion last campaign, and now sitting comfortably midtable in the Southern Premier Division South, Tier Seven of the men’s football pyramid, the women’s side are looking to replicate the promotion achieved by their male counterparts.
“It’s like a community, it’s a strong social bond, it’s a club that’s in the heart of a thriving town, and it’s just great to see the success of both the men’s team and the women’s team, and the ethos of the club around that.”
