Third year winger Rory Hunt was awarded the Manager’s Player of the Season at the University of Gloucestershire Men’s Football awards on Wednesday night.
Hunt played a pivotal role in helping the side secure the Western Tier 3A title and the club’s first promotion in over five years.
Despite winning the prestigous honor, the 21-year-old admitted that a number of players had a chance of being announced.
“I’m absolutely delighted (to win the award). It wasn’t anything I necessarily expected and I think their could have been a variety of winners.
“The boys have done a fantastic job this season. To go unbeaten and win the league is an unbelievable achievement and to have this on top just caps off a great year.”
Hunt scored six goals in Gloucester’s domestic campaign as well as providing a number of assists.
However, he views his personal charactersitics as being equally as important for why he was chosen by first team manager Ivor Gumm.
“I feel as if over the season I have remained committed to the team. I feel like even in the difficult moments, I’ve battled back from injury and provided a decent return.
“I’ve come up with some important goals when we have needed it and off the pitch, feel I am a big character within the group.”
It is Hunt’s final season with the club, having reached the end of his time at the University.
Despite departing after three years, the Reading-born attacker revealed that he leaves the side with fond memories.
“It has been absolutely amazing. It has been some of the best years of my life. Year one right the way through to year 3, I would just thank all the people that have been around.
“All the people that have supported me, to allow this (the award) to happen, it has been incredible. I could not have asked for a better way to round off my time here.”
