Fashion designers have spotted a rare opportunity to expand their fashion range whilst also keeping safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
With clothing stores closing left, right and centre it was a shock to even have the thought of there being an event which included a live runway.
However, while coronavirus stopped the world for a few moments, the drive for fashion continued.
Over the last few months while we were trapped in quarantine fashion designers have had the idea to incorporate masks and face coverings into their overall outfits and designs.
Runway shows with big brands such as Chiffon, Marine Serre and Richard Quinn are letting models sport this new look.
Many consumers of fashion are delighted by this creative way to keep safe but also keep fashionable. Masks are being normalised.
New York Fashion Week, which is a major event in the fashion world, also copiously used masks as an accessory.
East River, Zoe Latta and Mike Eckhaus’ collections all showed their models wearing masks showing the shift in what normality is in 2020.
NYFW is a semi-annual event which consists of 7-9 days, it is a large opportunity for fashion brands to show of their latest collections and with coronavirus on the prowl it was debated on whether NYFW should even be running.
But the day was saved with social distanced guidelines and masks being presented as not a necessity but a popular fashion trend.
By large fashion companies normalising masks we can hope that the world can become a more safer and sounder place.
Along with models wearing fashion masks at runways, a lot of fashion brands have now been selling them.
When people first wanted fashionable masks they were commonly sough out on Etsy, now fashion masks can be seen to be sold from large brands such as Vouge, Meji Meji and Lisou
However not all designers are following the lead of these fashion brands. Chanel and Louis Vuitton sent their models down the runway unmasked in front of a live audience.
This foolish display feels like we have took one step forward and two step back, however we should not look at the negatives and continue with the bright, shiny fact that a lot of fashion brands are doing the right thing and hopefully more will catch onto this idea in the future.
