Forest Green face Exeter City this weekend but manager Ian Burchnall is not blind to the idea that his side will face an up hill battle to secure League One safety.
Rovers will be in action for the first time in nearly two weeks after their third round FA cup tie against Birmingham City was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, with the rearranged tie set to take place on 17 January.
Rovers currently sit bottom of League One on 20 points with only 5 wins to their name in the league this season.
They have been busy in the market since the January transfer window opened, with Scottish Goalkeeper Ross Doohan the latest arrival at the New Lawn.
The 24 year old shot-stopper arrived from Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, making 30 appearances in League Two last season for Tranmere keeping 13 clean sheets in that time.
Manager Ian Burchnall was delighted to have another incoming over the line:
“Certainly Steve knew him from Scotland, and when Steve knew he was available was very strong about Ross’ potential, and what he feels he can reach, it seems to align with the fact that we wanted to bring in players who will be able to develop. I think competition is healthy and I think it’s good to bring in players that aspire to develop and improve in the football club.”
Birchnall also added that they weren’t done in the market, after top scorer Conor Wickham departed the club following the expiry of his contract.
“It will be great to add at the top end of the pitch, maybe just to create and get in more competition, and give us different kind of options up there to be able to play different systems, we’ll still search for one or two depending on who’s available”
FGR haven’t won since defeating rivals Cheltenham Town on December 10, losing all games in the league since their last victory.
“We’ve lost some games and found ourselves a little but short in the league so we’ve got a lot of work to do to get this team now knitted together and perform quickly”
Their opponents Exeter currently sit 11th in the league having won two consecutive games against Oxford United and Bristol Rovers and are six points behind Barnsley in sixth, the last playoff spot.
