“I look forward to it”: Cheltenham Town wing-back Will Ferry on the upcoming festive schedule, his role in the team and Leyton Orient challenge

Cheltenham Town’s Will Ferry has stated that the team are “high on confidence” going into a busy fortnight of fixtures.

The Robins are seemingly starting to find their feet under Darrell Clarke, and Ferry says that has translated to the team.

“I think everyone can see that we’re confident, we’re all looking forward to the next game and trying to pick up as many points.”

Of course, the Christmas period is a busy one to say the least for footballers, but Ferry says it’s something he has easily adapted to.

“I’m used to it by now. I’ve only been in football for a couple years and I’m used to it.

“As a kid, I was always buzzing to watch games on Boxing Day, so I think it’s just part of the whole Christmas football season. I look forward to it, I can’t say the same for everyone else but I love it.”

He’s now a part of that entertainment for so many others

“When you look at it that way, it’s still a bit surreal,” he said.

“In terms of being a footballer, I’ll never take it for granted how privileged I am.”

The festive period sees The Robins playing five times in the space of just two weeks, but especially at the moment, it’s something Ferry wants to do.

“We’re high on confidence, we just want to play as many games as we can while we’re feeling like we are. Just to show what we’re working on and show the fans and everyone else watching how we’re feeling and where we want to go.”

Ferry has had a few minor injuries throughout the season, but expresses that he’s feeling ready to go on a run.

“It’s been a little frustrating, but I’m feeling good now and hopefully I put together a good run of games.

“I’m hoping to stay fit and stay consistent in how I perform and see where we go from there.”

The 23-year-old is known to be versatile on the pitch, and his manager has not been afraid to play him in a number of positions. However, he knows what suits him best in this Cheltenham team.

“In this team, wing-back I think suits me the best. I would like to see myself sometimes as a bit more attacking than defensive, so if there’s ever a change in formation or something changes in the game I’d like to maybe go a bit further forward.

“But I think in this team wing-back suits me pretty well to be fair.”

Leyton Orient are next up for Cheltenham, and while they’re not in the greatest form, Ferry knows this won’t affect how they enter the game.

“They’re going to be up for it. You can never expect anyone to come and just roll over. We’re high on confidence, they’ll be looking to go from having a poor run to having an answer.

“If we do what we do and have been doing, I think we’ll give ourselves a good chance of getting something from the game.”
