Hull City appoint former Cheltenham Town goalkeeping coach

Championship outfit Hull City have announced Barry Richardson as their new goalkeeping coach. The decision was made as the Tigers lost another former Cheltenham goalkeeping coach, Pat Mountain to local rivals Forest Green earlier in this week.

He spent one season at the Robins as he coached during the 2009/2010 season. The 48 year-old will add a vast amount of experience to the Tigers, having made over 400 appearances over the course of a 16-year career as a player.

He will be hoping he can help with their survival bid, with Nigel Adkins’ side currently 21st in the Championship table and are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Speaking to the Hull City’s official club website, Richardson confirmed his delight of being brought in to work under former Southampton manager, Adkins.

He said:

“I’m very excited to be here, to be working with a group of really good players and more especially in my role, two really good international goalkeepers and some young goalkeepers that really want to develop.

“I love all aspects of working with different goalkeepers, from helping those just starting out with their careers with their development to working with some really top goalkeepers, and the two we have here are right up there. There’s a good blend of experience, youth and hunger with the group of goalkeepers we have here and I’m really looking forward to working with them.”
