Gloucestershire County Cricket Club give new contracts as one player is selected for England

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club announced four new contracts recently as Joe Phillips signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025 season.

Phillips has played four professional games for the county since making his debut in July of this year against Glamorgan in the County Championship. He has made two half centuries so far, one in the County Championship and one on his T20 debut against the touring New Zealand side in a warmup match where he made 71 not out.

Head coach Dale Berkenstein said, “Joe showed real promise with the bat in the 2023 season, coming in at the top of the order mid-way through the season and providing valuable contributions.”

Gloucestershire also announced that they had given out three rookie contracts for the 2024 season as opening batter Toomy Boorman, spinner Ahmed Syed and seam bowler Archie Bailey signing their first professional contracts.

Mark Thorburn, Head of Talent Pathway at the club stated, “I am delighted for all three players to have received rookie contracts for the 2024 season, this is fantastic recognition for the hard work and dedication they have put into developing themselves and their games and this opportunity provides them with the chance to continue their development within the professional squad.”

All-rounder Ollie Price was included in an England Lions squad for a winter training camp in the UAE later this month.

The Lions’ training camp gives England management a chance to understand the depth of resources in the pathway, more specifically in the future of their Test side which has been successful under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes.

Price had an outstanding summer this year as he scored over 500 runs in the One Day Cup and hit three centuries in the County Championship.
