Gloucester Rugby are currently sat at the bottom of the Gallagher Premiership and need to do something about it if they are to change their current state of affairs. With this in mind, on Wednesday the club announced the signing of Argentinian hooker Santiago Socino.
The announcement also included the news that James Hanson will be departing Kingsholm, he hasn’t signed directly to a new club, but will be heading back to his homeland of Australia to pursue opportunities with his family.
Socino, who has been capped by Argentina twice arrived in the UK this week and will join George Skivington’s men for the remainder of the season, he arrives with a handful of Premiership experience having made 34 appearances during his spell at Newcastle Falcons.
Commenting on the club’s recent bit of business, chief operating officer Alex Brown said, “With James moving on, it was important for us to secure the services of another quality hooker, and Santiago fits that bill.
“Santiago arrives with international and premiership pedigree and will provide added strength in depth to our hooker resources.”
It is highly unlikely he will feature on Saturday, but it still remains a must win game for the Cherry & Whites who are bottom of the table on seven points, and are four positions and 10 points behind their opponents.
