Former Bristol City player, Marvin Brown’s family have set-up a fundraiser that has had a great repsponse so far raising over £14,500 following his diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma, and aggressive and rare bile duct cancer.
The ex-Cheltenham Town loanee has since been moved on to end of life care as nothing can be done to help treat the cancer.
Brown became Bristol City’s youngest ever player on 15 September 1999 when he came on as a substitute at the age of just 16 years and 71 days old.
The forward was an exciting prospect throughout the early days of his career where he then went one to feature for Torquay United, Cheltenham Town, Forest Green Rovers, Tamworth, Yeovil Town, Weston-Super-Mare, Salisbury City and Truro City during his playing career as well as representing England at under-16 and under-17 level.
He also went on to become a coach at youth level for Bristol City, leading their under-15 side in 2018.
Previously, in 2022, the 42-year-old was diagnosed with colon cancer “the size of a lentil” back, which he was able to overcome after a major surgery to remove part of his bowel and gallbladder and create a stoma.
Feeling grateful, blessed and thankful following my successful surgery on Tuesday to remove my Bowel Cancer.

This is something that no family, or individual should ever be faced with and Brown’s family have subsequently set up a fundraiser to help cover the following;
“Funeral costs when the time comes, mortgage payments and bills to allow his family time to adjust, create memory boxes for his daughters an help offer some stability when everything else feels uncertain,” fundraising organiser Georgie Bowden said.
Since being diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, the disease has spread to his liver, lungs, and lymph nodes.
Brown is just 42-years old and facing one of the most unimaginable and horrible things anybody could possibly go through, he has been described by his family as “The most chilled, kind hearted, quietly funny person you’ll ever meet. He believes deeply in stoicism, calm in chaos, and that strength has carried his family through every storm. He is an incredible dad who made special handshakes with each of his daughters, a devoted husband who still made Alexis laugh every day, and the kind of person everyone roots for because he’s just so easy to love.
Even from his hospital bed, he’s joking with nurses and finding ways to bring light to the room.”
