Forest Green Rovers vs Exeter City: Match Preview

Forest Green will be looking to make it three wins from three tomorrow evening, as they welcome Exeter City in the Football League Trophy.

Rover’s head into this game currently top of their group, with victories against Southampton Academy and a 2-1 victory against Newport County.

Exeter on the other hand have had a mix bag of results, a matchday one defeat to Newport County was followed by a victory against Southampton Academy leaving them third in Group N only on goal difference.

However, Rovers have failed to defeat Exeter in their last six meetings, with the previous meeting between the two clubs coming back in September, the game ended in a 0-4 demolition in favour of the Grecians, with Jamaican forward Jevani Brown bagging himself a hat-trick.

A victory for Forest Green will guarantee their qualification into the next round, but Exeter will need results to go in their favour if they are going to qualify.

Players to Watch

One player I feel will be one to watch, is Exeter City’s on loan midfielder Kegs Chauke, Chauke who is on loan from Premier League club Southampton, Chauke has scored two goals in 10 appearances in the EFL Trophy, ranking him joint third in the EFL scoring chart, the South African born midfielder signed on loan this season after impressing coaches while on trial.

Head-to-Head

  • Four of the previous six meetings have ended in a draw.
  • Three out four of the draws have ended 0-0.
  • Exeter City haven’t lost to Forest Green since 2018.
  • The first time the two clubs played each other was back in the 2002/03 season the match ended 0-0.

The game will kick-off at 7pm tomorrow evening.
