Rovers have been struggling during their first season in League One with the Gloucestershire side sitting at the foot of the table in 24th.
However on Saturday, Burchnall was pleased with that he saw:
“Yeah I think they certainly rolled their sleeves up, certainly in the second half, I thought we did in the first half too but Oxford were very good in the first 45, they passed the ball very well and got behind us in some good moments.”
FGR boast some impressive away form with eight of their 14 points coming on the road.
And later on in the match, the Englishman believed his side went the extra mile.
“In the second half I thought we stepped up a level and we were more intense in our play, and even after Jamille Matt’s goal, I think in the position we’re in it’s easy to sit back and accept a point, but I really felt like we tried to get a second goal.”
Substitute Matt’s goal was his first of the season in League One with the striker missing seven games through injury.
Last season the talisman netted 19 times while also assisting 10 so the 33-year-old’s presence could prove vital for Rovers who have two cup games before hosting Cambridge United and rivals Cheltenham Town in the league.
