Forest Green Rovers full-back Kane Wilson says that three points against Harrogate Town on Saturday would be the perfect birthday present.
Despite reaching a landmark age of 21 on Thursday, Wilson was unable to celebrate his birthday in the way that he would have wanted, instead spending it in training.
“Three points is what I want most. It’s a bit weird, usually you see your family and do different things, but today my special outing is coming to football!
“A few of the lads have tried giving me birthday beats but I’ve told them that they can’t because of COVID, so I’ve got away with that one!”
Wilson has recently returned to the side, in a season that has been hampered by injury. He was out for seven weeks after picking up an injury in the opening day win at Bolton and the form of Jayden Richardson kept Wilson out of the team for longer than he would have liked, but he has started the last four league games.
“It’s been an up and down season for myself really. I feel like I’m getting into some sort of rhythm now. I’m enjoying it, we’re getting to the crunch time of the season, the most important time of the season, so it’s good to be back in the groove.”
Wilson will be hoping to continue his groove against play-off outsiders Harrogate Town on Saturday. Simon Weaver’s side have won four of their last six games, boosted by the goals of on-loan Forest Green striker Josh March.
March, a fellow Midlands man, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, but Wilson is still keeping in regular contact with him and is more than aware of the other threats that Harrogate pose.
“I spoke to him (March) literally two days ago and we’re going to play some Call of Duty together tonight! He’s a good friend of mine and they’ve got a good team with a lot of good players that can do a job. We have to go to The New Lawn on Saturday ready to win.”
Despite being just 21 years of age, Wilson has a wealth of EFL experience during loan spells at Exeter City and Tranmere Rovers – both clubs whom are competing with Rovers for a place in League One.
“It’s brilliant!” replied Wilson, when asked how he feels about seeing two of his old clubs competing at the top.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at both Tranmere and Exeter. They’ve always been up there, as have Forest Green. I always remember seeing from a distance how well Forest Green play football. It’s no surprise that all three clubs are up there.
“Us at Forest Green, we won’t battle with anyone. Aslong as we’re in that top three, we’ll let the others fight for the other two spots.
“Nobody has pulled away. It’s anybody’s league this season. We need to make sure that come the end of the season, Forest Green are in League One. That’s all that matters.”
