Mo Eisa and Ryan Broom: Ex-Cheltenham Town duo transfer listed, should Michael Duff be looking?

Mo Eisa and Ryan Broom are two players who have been put up for sale by newly promoted Peterborough United.

As the Football League season edges closer to an end, clubs are beginning to release their retained lists, which sees some very interesting players either being released, or transfer lifted and there have been some favourable names that Cheltenham Town fans have been looking out for.

Sudan-born Eisa signed for Cheltenham in 2017 from non-league London club Greenwich Borough FC and broke into the first team immediately. Throughout that season, forward Eisa had a breakthrough season of his own scoring 23 goals and helping the Robins to survival. His goalscoring saw him break Cheltenham’s record for most goals scored in a season and he was nominated for the EFL League Two player of the season award.

Unfortunately for Robins fans it was only the one season they would get to see Eisa in action as Championship club Bristol City came knocking in with a bid rumoured to be under a £1million, which Cheltenham Town couldn’t say no to. It seems to have been good business by Cheltenham as Eisa hasn’t set the world alight in higher leagues since his departure, not getting a look in at Bristol City and then making a move to top League One club Peterborough United.

The 26-year-old had a good first season at the Posh scoring 14 times in 29 appearances, but this season has not been good to him. Appearing 27 times and only scoring twice isn’t the return a team at the top of the league are looking for, Eisa found it hard to make it into the team with top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris having a record-breaking season of his own scoring 31 times.

Could we see the favourable forward back in Robins red and white? It seems very unlikely as Peterborough will be looking for a hefty fee to make some of their money back that Cheltenham can’t afford, however maybe Eisa has in his thoughts to repay Cheltenham as the club who gave him a chance. so maybe with the Robins going up a league, we will see him back one day.

It wasn’t just the forward who was put on Peterborough’s transfer list, with even more recent attacking midfielder Broom also making it on the list. This one seems to be more possible as Posh didn’t give Broom much of a look in, sending him out on loan to Burton Albion for the second half of the season. Although it was an undisclosed fee that Peterborough paid for him, it’s thought not to be a very high fee that Cheltenham let him go for, so they could get a reduction after not impressing much in England’s third division, scoring three times in 26 games.

Although struggling in a higher division, Michael Duff may look to get the 24-year-old back on his side, appearing over 80 times under the Robins manager. He was also a big influence in getting Cheltenham Town into the League Two play-offs in the 2019/20 season scoring eight and assisting six in an impressive season for the Welshman.

With Finn Azaz and Callum Wright’s futures unknown next season, signing Broom on a permanent would fill the attacking midfielder role next season and Duff knows what style that Broom portrays on a pitch, so there could be a strong possibility of seeing the exciting midfielder back in Cheltenham’s famous red and white next season.
