Swindon Town Women defeated Cheltenham Town Ladies 3-1 this past weekend in the FA Women’s National League Cup Round of 16.
Following Sunday’s emphatic win, club captain Annie Colston issued high praise to her team stating that “Every single player on the pitch today played their part in getting the win”
Swindon fell behind inside the first 15 minutes of play, but two quickfire goals from Colston and Libby Davies saw them lead 2-1 just 10 minutes later.

Speaking on their strike partnership, Colston said “we’ve gone to sort of a two up front recently, we work really really well together, she’s an incredible footballer…it’s amazing to watch her, I think we have developed a really good partnership on the field.”
The 27-year old nearly took the net off when she scored Swindon’s third of the day in the second-half to seal the deal for Town.
The Robins extended their club record winning run to 17 thanks to the weekend’s result, maintaining their perfect record in all competitions so far this term.
Central defender Katie Sherwood spent the best part of eight months out with a meniscus injury until her recent return to action.
Speaking on the current mood around the camp following another great result, Sherwood said “togetherness in the team is so high, everyone wants to work for each other and has faith in each other, just a bit of trust. That goes a long way and we just keep pushing on.”
Cheltenham ply their trade in the division above Swindon, with Colston mentioning in her post-match interview that “we were always the underdogs, the pressure was on them to perform and I think you could see that in the first 10 or 15 minutes.”
Swindon did very well to keep Cheltenham from adding to their tally, with Bella Hall looking a constant threat throughout the game, when asked about the defences performance on Sunday Sherwood said “I think everyone at the back put a shift in, it’s a different challenge to what we’ve had in the past two weeks and the girls all played so well.”
Town will now turn their attention towards the Wiltshire County Cup this weekend where they face Corsham, before taking on local rivals Oxford City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Sherwood touted both games as “a different challenge to what today was, but we’ll go into it how we go into every game. We’ll keep the mentality in the team and just push on.”
Swindon have now learned their opponents for the quarter-final of the FA Women’s National League Cup as AFC Bournemouth Women will make the trip to The Nigel Eady County Ground.
