England name strong squad ahead of Women’s World Cup

All-rounder Emma Lamb has been included in England’s squad for the 50-over World Cup beginning in March.

Head coach Lisa Keightley has named 15 players in her final squad selection for the upcoming tournament in New Zealand, where the team will look to defend their title.

24-year-old Lamb can bat at the top of the order as well as bowl some part-time off spin, a key factor in her selection.

Seven players named in the squad were involved in their World Cup win back in 2017.

Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean are both included as England’s front-line spinners after Sarah Glenn opted out of selection due to concerns over the quarantine protocols.

North-West Thunder player Lamb was selected ahead of Maia Bouchier.

Bouchier has been overlooked for the World Cup squad despite being involved in the recent Ashes series defeat in Australia.

Director of Cricket Jonathan Finch said that Lamb gave England “multiple options” and had been a “consistent performer” within the domestic game.

Captain Heather Knight will lead England in their first game against Australia on March 5th in Hamilton.

England’s World Cup Squad:

Heather Knight (captain), Nat Sciver (vice-captain), Tammy Beaumont, Katherine Brunt, Freya Davies, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Kate Cross, Sophie Ecclestone, Tash Farrant, Amy Jones (wicketkeeper), Emma Lamb, Anya Shrubsole, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Danni Wyatt
