England Ashes warm up match abandoned in Brisbane because of rain

England’s intra-squad warm up match against England Lions has been abandoned overnight due to a heavy rainfall, with no play possible on the third and final day of the match in Brisbane

With only 29 overs played in the first morning of the three-day match: England were unbeaten with the openers adding 98 without the loss of a wicket.

Haseeb Hameed 53* and Rory Burns 39* looked untroubled against the Lion’s attack that included former Gloucestershire paceman Liam Norwell.

James Bracey, 24 will have to wait to get into the middle: The ‘Shire’s’ captain named as a specialist Surrey wicketkeeper, Jamie Smith taking the gloves from Winterbourne-local.

Bracey has played two tests this summer for England against New Zealand in the absence of Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes. Keeping wicket and batting at number seven, being dismissed for two ducks and top scoring with 7.

There is opportunity for England to adjust their programme to provide more cricket, however a tight schedule means options are limited.

They will reassess in the coming days depending on the weather.
