After Collin Morikawa’s late charge to win the DP World Championship and Race to Dubai last weekend, the European PGA tour 2022 season kicks off in Johannesburg, South Africa with the Joburg Open.
Last years winner of this event was Dane Joachim Hansen who finished his season with a ninth-place finish in Dubai last weekend.
The first few hours of the opening round has seen Frenchman Frederic Lacroix and Spaniard, Pep Angles go joint top of the leader board with a score of four under.
The Championship was kicked off at 6:30 this morning by native Dean Burmester who earlier this week told Tennis World USA that he backs himself to win every week: “I never enter an event if I don’t think I can win it and it’s been a fantastic year and hopefully it can continue and I can keep showing this kind of form.”
The South African finished his round today one over but has high hopes for these next three weeks in his home country, with this week’s competition followed by the South African Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
England’s Dale Whitnell is currently tied for sixth at two under and will be hoping to land his first tour win this week.
