Dziugas Kandrotas hints at Gloucesteshire derby day return following injury

Another big week of sport is around the corner for the University of Gloucestershire as their BUCS teams are back in action.

Dziugas Kandrotas insists the University of Gloucestershire’s second team “can cause an upset” ahead of their derby day cup fixture against the first team at Plock Court.

The UoG men’s football first team play the second team tomorrow in the ALDI Men’s Western Conference Cup.

Second team forward Kandrotas believes his team have a great chance in progressing in the competition.

“If all the team are up for it, we can cause an upset.

“We are definitely good enough, but it depends on whether we stick to what we know we are good at on the pitch.

“We have played them a lot in training, and we have gone toe to toe with them, so we can do well, but it’s just whether everyone comes in on their day and performs.”

Both teams are coming off the back of some bad form after the first team lost 3-2 to Solent University’s first team, meanwhile Kandrotas and his seconds lost 5-1 to the University of Bath’s third team.

Kandrotas is coming back from an injury he suffered last cup game as UoG’s second team beat Solent’s second team 2-1.

“I feel like I can play, I don’t know how long I can last, because I’m back from an injury, but I’m hoping to get at least 20 minutes if I can.”

The 19-year-old talked about whether he felt he was mentally and physically prepared for the derby day game.

“I back myself on the ball and I can create something, but I can’t do this on my own I need players around me all up for it.”

The man from Lithuania talked about how big the game was for he and the team.

“It’s a huge game, as we haven’t had a good start in the league, we have messed up in a couple of games that we could have won, a win against the firsts would boost our confidence and help us get on a good cup run.”

The game is taking place at 10am tomorrow, as both teams will go all out to try and progress into the next round of the competition.

One thing for certain, is that there will be a Gloucestershire side in round three, with Kandrotas feeling his team can obtain the bragging rights across the club.
