The Knicks hosted the Pistons last night after looking to bounce back after their loss to the Boston Celtics. Knicks fans may have seen this game as a way to build up some confidence and try and replicate their fantastic run of form they had during January, since the Pistons had lost five in a row building up to the game.
Jalen Brunson started the game brilliantly as they managed to rack up 14 points in the first quarter alone, but Cade Cunningham was there to match him with 10 points and two assists. This would be the story for most of the game as the Knicks took a two-point lead into the second quarter.
Cunningham carried on his hot streak from the first quarter scoring 100 percent from the field and the line, while also putting up three assists. Despite this, the Knicks took a further two-point lead into the half and were playing well.
The third quarter was completely stolen by Brunson scoring 11 points and getting five assists. The Knicks finally looked like they had a took a hold on this game though as they took an eight-point lead into the final quarter.
Although the Knicks had clearly been the stronger team all night, the fourth quarter was a different story. Thanks to Quentin Grimes for scoring over half his teams points in the fourth and putting Detroit ahead with 37 seconds to go, though this was short lived.
After both teams play hot potato with the basketball, Josh Hart finally found the composure to make a lay up with only 2.8 seconds left on the clock.
The match proved brilliant for the neutrals but heartbreak for Pistons fans who will now look forward to tomorrow where the team faces the Chicago Bulls at the United Centre..
As for the Knicks they will be hosting the New Orleans Pelicans and hope to regain some form and continue to rise up the Eastern Conference standings.
