Sketchers store opening revealed

American footwear brand Skechers will be opening in Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade on Friday, March 2.

Managing Director and Owner Lindsay Jones manages LJPR, providing business communication and advice for local businesses, and in particular, the Regent Arcade.

The deal between the Regent Arcade and Skechers was signed late last year, taking several months for a new store to be fitted out and early March has always been their target opening date.

She tells us her role within the opening: “The challenge is to think up a new angle for the opening to attract media attention. For Skechers we have an 86-year-old Cheltenham’ brand ambassador’ (ie loyal customer who loves wearing her Skechers) who will be officially opening the store!

The way it works is that brands decide which towns/cities they want to be in and then look for space within those target areas. Cheltenham was high on the list for Skechers and once this is known the agents working on behalf of the Regent Arcade got in contact with the company.”

With Schuh right next door there is bound to be some competition. She says: “Competition is always good as it is giving shoppers more choice. By having another shoe shop, it should boost Schuh’s sales if anything as they sell more than just Skechers.”

The 15% student discount is part of their overall discount scheme which also includes NHS staff, emergency services and armed forces personnel.

“It is another great brand for the Regent Arcade and Cheltenham town centre.”

Over the opening weekend there will be a lucky dip with vouchers and giveaways.
