The cabinet of Gloucestershire will be asked to approve a large sum of 4 million pounds to aid families over the next three years during school holidays.
The money will be provided by the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) that has drawn funds from the Department of Education (DfE), for families that gain support already with things such as free school meals.
The programme will provide families with a six week programme of fun activities and they will also be providing free food during the school holidays. The six weeks will be split across one week in spring, four weeks during summer and finally one week in the winter holidays all the way to the end of 2025.
£1.6m has already been allocated for this yea and the council are already expecting to receive another installment of around £2.5m from DfE for 2024/2025.
As well as this, the council are going to provide a further £200,000 worth of funding to enhance the HAF programme and allow it to expand its range to families who are not eligible for free school meals. This will be done so tha children and families across the whole Gloucestershire can benefit.
