Cheltenham Town Midfielder Liam Sercombe Previews ‘Tough’ Game Away At Wycombe

Cheltenham Town centre-midfielder Liam Sercombe believes ‘it’s all to play for’ as the Robins travel south to Wycombe on Tuesday to aid their survival campaign.

The Robins are now just one point away from safety as Darrell Clarke has got his side playing well with an average of 1.3 points per game.

In fact, recently, Cheltenham have won three of the last four and are unbeaten in that time as survival is a real possibility for the side from Gloucestershire.

Sercombe has been a huge part of the upward trajectory for his side as he has netted seven times in the league with a further two assists although he has only started once in the last three games.

If Cheltenham can go to Wycombe and win, there is a real possibility of the Robins finally going out of the relegation zone for the first time since August.

Sercombe commented: “We’ve got to take each game as it comes. We’ve been in the relegation zone all season.

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position to get out of this (relegation battle). Only 14 games left this season. Everyone is going to be needed.

“It’s not going to be the same starting 11 for all 14 games.”

Cheltenham last played on Friday night after battling hard for a singular point at Wigan Athletic. Sercombe only played 26 minutes in that game and will be looking to start more in the run in.

“We like to have a two-day build-up to a game. We are professionals we need to do what we need to do.

“We know what Wycombe are like, it’s going to be a tough game. We will go there full of confidence to get a win this time.”

The last time these two met was Cheltenham’s last defeat where they lost 3-1 at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium at the start of March.

That game was also the last time in which Liam Sercombe played a full 90 minutes and he will look to at least play another 90 if not 60.

“We’ve got to take each game as it comes. We’ve been in the relegation zone all season.

“We’re all really confident, we’re in a good place and we’re looking forward.”

Since Clarke has arrived in September, he has steered a poor looking team who only scored one goal in 13 games which also appeared to be an own-goal.

The Englishmen eventually got the side playing well, being a little more well-structured and scoring more as after no goals in 11 league matches, they have scored 28 in the last 21 matches.

Wycombe V Cheltenham will kick off at 19:45 at Adams Park tomorrow night.
