Cheltenham Town defender, Sam Stubbs previews a difficult fixture against ‘underachieving’ Chesterfield

Sam Stubbs expects his Cheltenham Town side to have a tough challenge on the Saturday as they take on Paul Cook’s Chesterfield.

The Bradford loanee has enjoyed a solid campaign for the Robins, making 23 appearances for Michael Flynn’s side, who face last season’s National League champions, Chesterfield at Whaddon Road tomorrow.

Cook’s men are having a good return to League Two and Stubbs is expecting a testing afternoon against the newly-promoted side.

“They are a tough, very good team.” Stubbs said.

“They move the ball well, they have good rotation and the way they set up causes a few issues.

“They are a good team and they’ll probably be saying that they are underachieving this season, they’ll fully expect to be here and get a result. It will be a challenge and a tough game.”

Only the high-flying Walsall have scored more goals than the Spireites this season and the Robins centre-back is hoping that his team can continue their defensive record after a clean sheet against Accrington Stanley in midweek.

“I do remember they had a few options so it’s more of a threat.

“The clean sheet against Accy(Accrington) is good but a great test to see where you are is probably against Chesterfield.

“But we score a lot of goals as well, we are a team that doesn’t struggle to score, that’s not been the issue.

“For the neutral it might be a great game but for the back four, we hope it’s a bit more boring for us. “

The Robins return to The EV Charger Points Stadium tomorrow, where they are currently enjoying a run that has seen them only lose once in their last eight games on home soil, a record which Stubbs is keen to build on tomorrow.

“I think since the Swindon game, we have kind of changed the fortune a little bit at home.

“Not just the season in general, but definitely at home. I think we have found a way of playing that suits us and even in terms of the first half and second half and how we change things tactically.

“It’s good going and we’ll try and make it one in nine tomorrow.”

Saturday’s game will see the Sky Sports cameras make their way to Whaddon Road, for the game, which Stubbs feels is a great opportunity for the Robins’ young players to impress, but insists it won’t affect his teammates on the weekend.

“It’s a good chance, we have a lot of young players trying to try and make their way so it’s a chance for everyone to impress and try and get their names out there.

“Sky will be there so it’s something added to the day but you don’t notice it too much on TV, So you can’t hide nowadays.”
