Cheltenham Town Boss Gary Johnson speaks on recent Bristol Rovers’ addition Ryan Broom

Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson has spoken on his decision to sign Bristol Rovers midfielder Ryan Broom after the 21 year-old was released by the League One side.

Broom, was let go alongside Bryon Moore, Jonny Burn and club stalwart Lee Brown.

Speaking to the official Cheltenham Town website, former Yeovil Town and Bristol City manager Johnson said: “I’ve always been really impressed when I’ve watched Ryan play so we are very pleased that he will join us next season.

“Ryan is a midfield player with real energy to his game. He is quick, strong and the exactly the right type of character that we want in the squad for next season.

“He has been at Bristol Rovers for almost a decade, since joining the Academy as a youngster, and both myself and Darrell Clarke feel it is time for Ryan to play regular first team football. We are delighted to give him that opportunity.”

Broom, who is typically a right-midfielder, was at Rovers since the age of 12 and signed his first professional deal back in 2015. To see more on Cheltenham’s signing of Broom, click the link here: https://jmag.glos.ac.uk/cheltenham-town-bristol-rovers-ryan-broom-signed-robins/

The youngster made his senior debut for the Gas back in August 2015 in a Carabao Cup tie against Birmingham City at the Memorial Stadium.

The midfielder’s league debut came in March 2016 after coming on as a late substitute against Newport County but has been unable to force his way into the regular Rover’s first team, playing only three times in League One this season.
